About Us
G&S staff coordinate individual expertises seamlessly for fully-integrated results and, because they’re such a cohesive team, any challenge is resolved through this collective support. Proud of their contributions and committed to honing their skills, they often take extra training – safety, first-aid, accounting, business, estimating, education. No question, it’s the people behind the products who reflect the true personality of G&S, and this gallery helps give a sense of some of our key personnel.
Founder / President
Soon to celebrate his 50th career year, Jerry spent the first 17 in general maintenance for London’s Board of Education, becoming certified in Electrical Construction/Maintenance and Glazier/Metal Mechanics. Always hard working, he occasionally helped Beaver Lumber build garages, rec rooms, etc. By 1975, when Jerry earned his Master Electrician licence, he’d become an accomplished craftsman whose education and ambitious drive compelled him to start a business (G&S, 1975).
Today, Jerry enjoys administrative, organizational roles – the corporate structure. With a keen eye for efficiencies, he always reflects on how G&S can learn from any experience. "I try to see a challenge through the eyes of everyone it affects, consider advice, then set a plan to overcome it." As an employer, what matters to Jerry "is that employees see our honest effort to make work enjoyable; a path to a better lifestyle." Certainly, his staff’s glowing remarks prove he’s lived that. And, having groomed the next generations with a common philosophy, Jerry honours that continuity of commitment, expertise, and a satisfaction for staff as well as customers.
Office Manager
Clients often compliment G&S on their friendly, efficient office staff. Such deserved praise is particularly appreciated by Kathie, who oversees this area. A Certified General Accountant, Kathie’s a multi-tasking marvel who’s managed accounting for several G&S divisions since 2001. With over 20 years experience as a CGA, Kathie loves new challenges and work that’s different every day. "When Jerry hired me, he promised I’d never be bored. He kept his word."
Project Manager / Estimator
Working in G&S for nearly 25 years, Keith’s well educated with licences as a Master Electrician, Interprovincial Electrician, and many certificates for business training and electrical. He particularly enjoys estimating and project management because they’re pivotal to final products. "When projects are quoted and managed well, it hugely impacts outcomes." And at the end of the day ... Are we really complete? Is the client well satisfied? Were we profitable? Those are the affirmatives that most please Keith.
Project Supervisor
Mike’s been managing since he was 16 and, before going full-time at G&S in 1981, ran three bingo halls. In addition to licences in Electrical Construction & Maintenance, Interprovincial Electrician, and Master Electrician, he studies safety and education. "I deliver a lot of in-house training, mostly on safety. I like to help the guys advance." Admittedly stubborn, Mike’s ‘determination’ helps him dig in to challenges, never giving up, so any potential issues are usually resolved before a customer even asks.
Service Manager
Marty, who’s plied his trade as a transformer builder for over two decades, joined G&S a few years ago. Interested in staying ahead in his profession, he’s completed several electrical, first-aid, and safety certificates. And he picks up tips at work, too. "I enjoy learning from others in the office. " When a project’s finished, Marty takes pride in the hours invested, the quality of workmanship, and knowing that – as well as his own expertise – he can always rely on his peers.
Project Supervisor
Mike joined "the great team we have at G&S" just before the millennium, enjoying the daily use of his Electrical Construction & Maintenance certification. He feels a great sense of accomplishment when a job’s complete, and "meeting any challenge along the way with hard work and by thinking it through." It’s nice, too, when a chance presents itself for Mike to give some of that back, teaching and helping other employees where he can.
Project Manager / Estimator
In this profession for over 30 years, Ray had his own electrical contracting firm before joining G&S in 2004. His qualifications – an Industrial Electrician certificate and an Interprovincial Electrical Journeyman licence – are enhanced with various other courses. No doubt, what adds to Ray’s great satisfaction every time G&S wins a contract is "knowing my skills in electrical estimating helped strengthen the bidding process and negotiations." And the big-picture perspective from his entrepreneurial days is a bonus, too.
