About Us
G&S staff coordinate individual expertises seamlessly for fully-integrated results and, because they’re such a cohesive team, any challenge is resolved through this collective support. Proud of their contributions and committed to honing their skills, they often take extra training – safety, first-aid, accounting, business, estimating, education. No question, it's the people behind the products who reflect the true personality of G&S, and this gallery helps give a sense of some of our key personnel.
Founder / President
Soon to celebrate his 50th career year, Jerry spent the first 17 in general maintenance for London’s Board of Education, becoming certified in Electrical Construction/Maintenance and Glazier/Metal Mechanics. Always hard working, he occasionally helped Beaver Lumber build garages, rec rooms, etc. By 1975, when Jerry earned his Master Electrician licence, he’d become an accomplished craftsman whose education and ambitious drive compelled him to start a business (G&S, 1975).
Today, Jerry enjoys administrative, organizational roles – the corporate structure. With a keen eye for efficiencies, he always reflects on how G&S can learn from any experience. "I try to see a challenge through the eyes of everyone it affects, consider advice, then set a plan to overcome it." As an employer, what matters to Jerry "is that employees see our honest effort to make work enjoyable; a path to a better lifestyle." Certainly, his staff’s glowing remarks prove he’s lived that. And, having groomed the next generations with a common philosophy, Jerry honours that continuity of commitment, expertise, and a satisfaction for staff as well as customers.
Office Manager
Clients often compliment G&S on their friendly, efficient office staff. Such deserved praise is particularly appreciated by Kathie, who oversees this area. A Certified General Accountant, Kathie's a multi-tasking marvel who's managed accounting for several G&S divisions since 2001. With over 20 years experience as a CGA, Kathie loves new challenges and work that's different every day. "When Jerry hired me, he promised I'd never be bored. He kept his word."
Project Manager / Estimator
Joining G&S in 1980, Mark advanced to Master Electrician from his Electrical Apprentice certification. It was Mark's interest in his father's woodworking projects, though, that proved the catalyst to create this second G&S division. Of his many core responsibilities, Mark takes particular pleasure in meeting customers. "Creating a project, then sharing the final result with them to realize their dreams is a rewarding accomplishment." And such moments are manifested thanks to teamwork – perhaps the best perk of his profession.
Project Manager / Estimator
Guy's responsibilities have expanded since he began 25 years ago as a cabinet maker (the last 14 with G&S). Now an Estimator and Project Supervisor, he doesn't just produce quality millwork – he manages the quoting and sales, too. Guy admits to having "a real sense of accomplishment in crafting a finished product, especially as it's from other people's concepts and drawings". And after a project is completed, he's always pleased to see the satisfied customer return for another job well done.
Project Coordinator
Scott joined the G & S team in early 2007, bringing with him 10 years of experience in the woodworking industry. He has worked in both the retail sector and the manufacturing sector. He draws heavily on his knowledge of computer software, and is well experienced in the various software programs used throughout the industry. He completed a three year co-op program at Conestoga College that allows him to manage a project from its design stage to complete customer satisfaction.
